In 1979 acquired a brand new puppy dog. The father was pure Malamute and the Mother was half-Malamute and half-Timberwolf. I decided to name him Dave. Wondering if that name was appropriate I searched through the book, The Call Of The Wild, to see if any of the wolves in that story might have a more appropriate name that I might choose, and lo and behold, one of the wolves in the story was named Dave, so that affirmed my choice.
Dave had very large paws for a little ball of fluff. I knew he was going get pretty big. He grew at an alarming rate. It seemed like all you had to do was turn around, and when you looked back at him he was bigger. He ended up weighing about 118 pounds and could walk up to the dining room table and rest his chin on it. For all of his size he was very gentle and polite.
I began drawing a Christmas card featuring Dave and Santa Claus and that has continued now for 25 years.

Dave snapped the boards out so he could see who was approaching the gate. Dave's father was a pure Malamute and his mother was half Malamute - half Timberwolf. There's no way to tell how much wolf found it's way into Dave, but he did end up pretty large, weighing in at about 118 pounds. He had a very even temperment and was very gentle

This is one of the first pictures of Dave when he was about 8 weeks old, playing out in front of the house. Who knew that when he was fully grown his head would be almost as big as he is in this photo.
